In the last 21 years the Trust has given away over 15 million dollars in his name and funded over 700 projects in the global battle against HIV/AIDS. Robin Williams was a personal and beloved favorite actor/performer. He was a very generous supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital before his death, however, and they had this to say about him on their site: “Mr. Williams generously gave his time to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude and for our patients battling childhood cancer. The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the worst the world has ever seen, and it is not contained. From the Doctors Without Borders website: “The scale of the current Ebola epidemic is unprecedented in terms of geographical distribution and the numbers of cases and deaths. There have been 528 cases and 337 deaths since the epidemic began, according to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) figures.” Organizations like the International Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) are key groups that send supplies and medical personnel to aid in disaster relief all over the world.
At this time, MSF’s Ebola effort is fully funded because MSF can no longer send personnel to the affected region–the disaster has reached a level where private aid is limited in reaching the sick and dying and governments must step in. However, unrestricted donations to support Doctors Without Borders help continue their efforts when aid can begin again, and the Red Cross and MSF are the most experienced and needed in crises of this magnitude.
