Baltimore is getting a lot of book buzz this September: Baltimore Comic Con (at the Convention Center) and Baltimore Book Festival (a FREE event at Inner Harbor) are happening the same weekend next month, September 25-27. Red Stylo will represent in artist alley at Baltimore Comic Con, but some of the crew will also be outside at the Book Festival, too! We’re teaming up again with Eric Suggs and the non-profit Artway Alliance, hosted by Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, for THREE magical panels about comics and storytelling:
- Girls/Women Creating Comics Too, Friday 12-1 PM
More women than ever before are making their own comics and telling stories on their own terms. This panel of published and self-published comics creators talks about why female voices are an important part of comics today. They also discuss how the market is changing to include new creative voices and audiences. (Confirmed panelists: Enrica Jang, Erica Schultz, Jennie Wood and Emily Swan.) - How to Publish a Comic Book/Graphic Novel, Sunday 12-1 PM
Publishing comics has grown beyond traditional publishing to include self-publishing, digital publishing, webcomics and any number of different paths to storytelling. Hear from a team of comics creators about how they pursued traditional and non-traditional paths to creating their own comics and graphic novels, and learn about some of the tricks of the trade for a new generation of creators eager to tell their own stories. - The Art of Manga: Composing Scene Design in Sequential Art – with Chris Liu, Sunday 4-5 PM
A workshop that will demonstrate key concepts and the importance of scene design using composition and traditional art-making essentials. Illustrator and Comic Artist Chris Liu will explain the different uses of viewing angles and tone while showing how to compose an image in a sequential art format. (Chris Liu is the featured penciler for RSM’s THE STAR THIEF)
