It’s been an exciting week of reviews for THE HOUSE OF MONTRESOR, Part 1 of a new graphic novel and a sequel to Edgar Allan Poe’s Cask of Amontillado. The book hit stores February 6th, and first up Aubrey Douglas at Outright Geekery returned to give a review. The verdict once again: 9 out 10!
“A sequel to a story that many of us have probably spent a few hours wondering about after reading in school is something that I can appreciate. You will definitely want to see this through, especially after everything that we know has happened in the first book.”

Also, this new book is published by Action Lab, and is in local comic shops now, where you can also pick up our adaptation of the original Cask of Amontillado. Your shop didn’t order it??? The House of Montresor is a sequel to Edgar Allan Poe’s original gothic short story, The Cask of Amontillado, written by Enrica Jang with art by the amazing Jason Strutz. This comic fills in the story of Poe’s most cold-blooded killer, Montresor, and what he’s been up to fifty years after getting away with the perfect murder. Only one member of his victim’s bloodline is still alive, and Montresor is not finished tormenting the Fortunato family. Out in stores now, and published by Action Lab!
Believe it or not, this is not the 1st sequel to “Amontillado”! John Jakes wrote “The Opener Of The Crypt”, which appeared in FANTASTIC Vol.1 #3 (Ziff-Davis / Nov’-Dec’52) with illustrations by David Stone.
Only 3 months later, The Iger Shop ripped off the story for their own “Demon In The Dungeon”, in STRANGE FANTASY #4 (Ajax-Farrell / Feb’83).
An official adaptation was done by Jakes himself, with artist Frank Brunner, in CHAMBER OF CHILLS #4 (Marvel / May’73).
The Iger Shop version was reprinted multiple times by Eerie Publications, who also redid it with new art by Cirilo Munoz as “The Demon Ghost” in TERROR TALES Vol.6 #1 (Feb’74).
I can see by the brief description that this new sequel goes in quite a different direction, however.
