It’s #NCBD and only a day after the most rock-and-roll rocket launch in space history, so it’s only fitting that today Red Stylo announces the lineup for our next great rock anthology: COSMIC LOVE, a new comic fanthology inspired by the music of British rock’s Florence + the Machine!
COSMIC LOVE will be a curated selection of original short form comics and illustrations in tribute to over a decade of music by the phenom performer Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine. Thirteen artists and writers chose their favorite songs as inspiration for original art and stories. The themed collection was first proposed by featured cover artist Rachel Perciphone:
“Florence + The Machine is one of my favorite bands and particularly inspiring to me. Their music is ethereal and otherworldly; I can’t help but be taken to new places in my imagination. I often listen to them while I work in my studio. Florence’s lyrics are full of imagery that allow for different visual interpretations and storytelling of emotional experiences.”
The collection is edited by Jennie Wood (Flutter, The 27 Club). On why she joined the project, the award-winning comics writer and editor said:
“When Red Stylo asked me to edit this anthology, saying yes was a no-brainer for two reasons. One, I’m a huge fan of Florence + the Machine. Their songs are so visual. The possibilities for writers, artists, stories would be endless. Second, it was another opportunity, and a new way to work with Enrica and the Red Stylo team.”
Matching the format of a previous music-inspired title, Baroque Pop, A Comic Anthology inspired by the music of Lana Del Rey, the COSMIC LOVE Fanthology will be printed at 7×7 inches to physically resemble a 45 RPM record cover. The project will be published under Red Stylo Media’s group publishing imprint, Red Stylo Press and is slated for release digitally and in print this Fall 2018.
COSMIC LOVE will feature seven short comics and eight portraits by:
o Rachel Perciphone
o Jamie Fay
o Enrica Jang
o Vita Ayala & Kat Taylor
o Seth Greenwood & Angela Zhang
o Jennie Wood & Josh Siegel
o Zack Rocklin-Waltch & Tessa Beatrice
o Mario Candelaria & Katarzyna Witerscheim
More announcements will follow as the collection progresses! #loveiscosmic
In addition to COSMIC LOVE and BAROQUE POP, other rock-themed titles produced by Red Stylo include: Angel With a Bullet, inspired by Tom Waits; KILLER QUEEN, comics inspired by the discography of Queen; and THE 27 CLUB, comics inspired by Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix and other music artists who died age twenty-seven.
Sounds awesome! Can’t wait for this!
