In Stevenson’s original story, Dr. Jekyll opines that he wishes he could live two lives, one or the other free from guilt and/or temptation. In “The Transfer”, a scientist seeks to transfer some of his more unsavory emotions into something else. But rather than looking for an object of affection to feel for, Dr. Merkel is looking for someone else to feel these emotions for him, with truly unsettling results!
