PRESS RELEASE statement:

Comic anthology inspired by music’s “27 Club” kickstarts ‘Rock Hard’ Edition June 5th

Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Joplin, Morrison, and Hendrix, among others, inspire original comic art and stories at Special Edition: NYC.

New York, NY, June 5, 2015: On the eve of their second appearance at the Special Edition: NYC comic convention in New York City, indie publisher Red Stylo Media is launching a Kickstarter to fund 27, A Comic Anthology: ROCK HARD Edition, a special limited edition hardcover collection of original comic art and stories inspired by music’s infamous “27 Club”.

Members of the “27 Club” reached musical stardom early in life and died under various circumstances, all at the age of 27. Some of the club’s more famous members include Jim Morrison (The Doors), Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), and Amy Winehouse. Fifty comic artists and writers contributed original comic stories inspired by their favorite song or member of the 27 Club. The collection is edited by Enrica Jang, with an introduction by 27 Club scholar, Diana Kenny, Professor of Psychology and Music at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Building on the success their previous year’s rock music-themed anthology, KILLER QUEEN, A Comic Anthology inspired by the discography of the band Queen, this is the fifth themed anthology put out by Red Stylo, but their first hardcover and first Kickstarter campaign. The new book will be 212+ color pages featuring original comic stories from both new and veteran creators, as well as including vignette art and illustrated essays. The Kickstarter campaign will run for 60 days beginning June 5, with a goal of $6000 to print a special “Rock Hard” hardcover edition of the collection, limited to a thousand numbered copies. The book will be released digitally and in print after the initial run is complete. 27 is slated for release in October this year.
